Mundelein re-opens the college in Lake County under the original
charter . The Reverend J. Gerald Kealy was named first Rector. |
| 1929 | Cardinal Mundelein
obtains the first five-year grant from the sacred Congregation of
Seminaries and Universities in Rome to confer the Baccalaureate, the Licentiate and Doctorate in Theology. |
| 1934 | The Seminary became
the first American institution to be honored as a Pontifical
Theological Faculty. |
| 1936 | Reverend Monsignor Reynold H. Hillebrand was appointed the second Rector. |
| 1945 | Reverend Monsignor Malachy P. Foley was named the third Rector. |
| 1961 | Albert Cardinal Meyer redesigns the seminary system, opening a second campus in Niles that offered a two-year program in liberal arts. |
| 1966 | Reverend Monsignor John R. Gorman was appointed the fourth Rector by John Cardinal Cody. |
| 1971 | USML becomes affiliated with the Association of Theological Schools of which it remains an accredited member. |
| 1973 | Reverend Thomas J. Murphy is appointed the fifth Rector. |
| 1976 | USML begins the Doctor of Ministry program in cooperation with the Archdiocese’s Center for Pastoral Ministry. |
| 1978 | The Very Reverend James P. Keleher was appointed the sixth Rector. |
| 1984 | The Very Reverend Gerald F. Kicanas was appointed the seventh Rector by Joseph Cardinal Bernardin. |
| 1985 | Cardinal Bernardin created a Board of Trustees for the Seminaries. |
| 1986 | The Center for the
Development in Ministry moves to the campus, focusing on the ongoing
development of all those formally in ministry in the Archdiocese of Chicago. |
| 1995 | The Very Reverend John F. Canary is appointed the eighth Rector. |
| 1996 | Mundelein Seminary celebrates its 75th Anniversary of service to the People of God in the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Universal Church. |
