he archival
materials in the Archives & Records Center are housed in closed stacks. Appointments
are recommended. Unprocessed collections are restricted. Materials less than twenty-five
years old are generally closed. The Vice Chancellor can waive restrictions. The main reading room and general reference area of the Archdiocese of Chicagos Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Archives & Records Center are located on the second floor of the building. Basic reference works such as dictionaries, handbooks, guides, bibliographies, and others reference materials that support research in the Archdiocesan Archives are kept here. Guides for the main collections are placed in binders, in the Reference Room. The card catalog near the Reference Desk includes the Madaj Collection (half million cards). Two Reader Printers for microfilm and microfiche enable researchers to examine and print research materials. The newly acquired Digital Microfilm Scanner offers an affordable state-of-the-art digital system for reading and printing microforms. Readers are encouraged to ask for help and advice. The Assistant Research Archivist is available in the reading room to provide assistance. Duplication services are available for the fee of $0.25 per
copy. Copies of photographs, for sizes 5x7 and 8x10, are available for a fee of $25.00.
United States copyright laws apply to all duplication materials. Researchers using
materials from the Archives & Records Center are asked to donate a copy of their
work (books, articles, class papers, documentary, etc.) |
